IkamvaYouth equips students from underserved communities in South Africa with the knowledge, skills, networks, and capabilities to access tertiary education and employment opportunities. The organization aims to increase the collective skill level and capabilities of disadvantaged populations and narrow the overall opportunity gap.
The IkamvaYouth model draws from a growing pool of volunteers made up of students and local professionals who use group mentoring supported by technology to provide supplementary support sessions for participants. Youth in South Africa face many obstacles that perpetuate disadvantage, but participants in IkamvaYouth programs outperform both national and peer averages for secondary pass rates.
IkamvaYouth is working to achieve even greater impact by expanding to more communities throughout South Africa.
