The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) advances the field of microfinance by serving as an independent resource for objective information, expert opinion, and innovative solutions in microfinance.
CGAP improves access to microfinance and other financial services for the poor by collaborating with the financial industry, governments, and investors. Housed at the World Bank and supported by over 30 development agencies and private foundations that share their mission to alleviate poverty, CGAP offers world-class research, data and analysis on the microfinance market.
By distributing information and research about microfinance through a variety of free publications and websites, CGAP offers stakeholders needed tools for identifying best practices in the field of microfinance. CGAP also provides advisory services to governments and financial institutions, helping them use microfinance to serve the needs of the poor more effectively.
