Guidestar is an information marketplace that gathers and publicizes key information about nonprofit organizations and private foundations, giving prospective donors the tools they need to be informed philanthropists. By increasing transparency and accountability in the nonprofit sector, Guidestar enables users to make more effective giving decisions and provides additional incentive for nonprofits to perform.

Guidestar encourages nonprofits to openly share information about their organizations through its unique and comprehensive online database. Currently, Guidestar offers information on 1.7 million organizations, and has more than 10 million visitors to its site each year.
