International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is a non-partisan, intergovernmental organization that promotes legal, regulatory, and institutional reform to advance economic and social development in emerging markets, with microfinance as a key pillar of its work.
IDLO was founded on the belief that rule of law is an essential pre-condition for economic and social development. IDLO’s microfinance project aims to build the capacity of legal professionals in emerging markets, enabling them to take an active role in the microfinance industry.
IDLO provides training opportunities for legal professionals and technical assistance in support of legal and judicial reform. IDLO’s global microfinance project works from the belief that a community of legal professionals should catalyze the microfinance industry’s growth, advising banks, microfinance institutions, governments, and donors, advocating for supportive legislative and regulatory environments, and protecting the rights of borrowers.
