KaBOOM! uses comprehensive online tools an innovative process for facilitating community builds to rally people nationwide to improve their communities through the design, building, and improvement of playspaces.
Why We Invested
KaBOOM! provides a needed resource for children by engaging and mobilizing communities to design and build new playspaces. Community members that build, maintain, and advocate for playspaces unite around a positive goal and gain a sense of ownership. With that sense of personal involvement, people are more likely to feel accountable for the ongoing maintenance and care of their children’s playspaces.
Support from Omidyar Network has enabled KaBOOM! to multiply its impact by extending its work beyond playspace builds and offline trainings to launch a comprehensive open-source website. At kaboom.org, users can learn how to build playgrounds, advocate for play, participate in online training sessions, and more. By offering a trusted online platform where individuals can uncover opportunities and connect to fellow community members, KaBOOM! enables more people to take action.
