Omidyar Network is truly a partner in the market and in thinking about the market. It is one of our most knowledgeable investors, and shares our core philosophy about the commercial potential of microfinance.

— Gil Crawford, CEO, Microvest

MicroVest is an investment firm providing microfinance institutions (MFIs) with access to new sources of commercial capital, helping to build capital markets that work for the poor.

Why We Invested

MicroVest makes debt and equity investments in profitable, growth-oriented, and well-managed financial institutions that provide microfinance services to microentrepreneurs.

A growing funding gap prevents hundreds of successful MFIs from maximizing the number of loans made available to entrepreneurs in emerging markets. This results in lost business for MFIs, and leaves families trapped in poverty. MicroVest is demonstrating that private investors can do more to reverse this trend, while simultaneously earning a strong financial return.
